Abstract:

CrossFit is a high intensity training that has negative impacts on the people who practice it. Injuries to the ankle joint are very common due to complex musculoskeletal conformation. It is known that dry needling is a technique of choice for addressing symptoms related to overload in the musculoskeletal system, although its use in a specific population such as that of the study is still unknown. The objective of this study is to know the effectiveness of dry needling applied to the soleus versus the implementation of exercises on the range of ankle dorsiflexion in CrossFit athletes. Material and method: a randomized controlled clinical trial was carried out with two groups: in the experimental group dry needling was applied to the soleus and for the control group, some exercises were implemented. Flexibility, sensation of ankle instability, pain and dynamic balance of the joint were measured. A total of 16 subjects participated. Results: only in the Star Excursion Balance Test in the Anterior direction did the control group show significantly higher post-intervention values than the experimental group. There were no differences between the groups in the other variables. Conclusions: dry needling applied to soleus muscles constaaimed at improving ankle dorsiflexion and pain has similar effectiveness to the application of an exercise program. In balance in the anterior direction, the exercise demonstrates significantly greater effectiveness than the application of dry needling.
